Everywhere, Nowhere
How do I fill this massive gaping hole left by your sudden absence?
You are everywhere I look, yet nowhere. You are where I turn to for answers, for encouragement, but I can’t hear you. You are the voice in my head slowly drawing the breath I am taking, willing myself to sleep, bringing with it the worst memories of those final days.
It feels as if you are in the wind around me, but I can’t see your face. How I miss that simple “Hi Sue, how was your day?”, over the Six o’ Clock News.
On the rare days, when I feel a little less raw, I bat Phineus’s Harpies away, to bask in those temporary, still moments, that bring me a little of you. Alas, the Harpies always return, beneath my eyelids in wishful slumber.
I frantically steal moments of you, and lock them away in duplicate, triplicate, so they can’t be stolen from me, like you were.
December 3rd, 2024 marked the single worst day in my life, where my powerhouse of a Dad took his final breath. There was nothing more I could do, no more pestering nurses or doctors to check on every beep, sigh and flinch. I held on as tight as I could, stunned, but at 15.07 he slipped away from us for good.
